Cons: every other camper was extremely noisy. One campsite over there were 2 gentleman that thought it was a good idea to set off fireworks at 11 o' clock at night. Other campers that showed up late decided that hammering was necessary at 1am. I ended up leaving because I was getting no serenity from my stay. I'm going to give it one more try for an overnight stay and then lodge official complaints.
**watch where you rummage, if you're going to crawl into a bush, be sure to check it out first, black widows are native to this area and while it won't kill you, a trip to the hospital will probably ruin your vacation.
First off, this camp ground is gorgeous. It's location is nice for getting away from Austin if you want an overnight or 2 night stay.
Great place to camp. Beautiful views and a nice quiet spot. It's a much needed getaway that's not far from the city.
Of note, it's cash only to get a park pass. Soooooo annoying.
This is a great little county park with lots of options for tent campers. The west (left side) of the park has some amazing, secluded, cliff top sites (30-60 ft). The north and east side are mostly flat, with good river access and perfect for larger or multiple groups. The road forms a loop within the park and is perfect for a family bike ride.
Stayed here twice, great location for kayaking or canoeing while fishing. It's all car camping spots or Rvs, no backpacking areas but still a great park for the weekend if you wanna car camp with friends or family. Great place for star gazing at night as well. Really nice park for a getaway.
While I regret going camping in the middle of August, I'm glad this is the park I was at. The trails are shady, the views are beautiful, and the river is refreshing. The potable water station though - it smelled strongly of chlorine and the water was murky so we wound up driving up to the nearest gas station to buy refills. The toilets are not connected to plumbing but the facilities are well maintained. No showers on site. Grills, firepits, and concrete picnic tables at campsites. Excellent places on the east side to free climb over the bend and a couple good places to jump off, especially "acid rock"- a 45 foot drop. Wildlife my group personally sighted included buzzards, some kind of raptor (falcon? Hawk?), road runner, coyote, and fish.
